Identity verification

How to Complete Binance Identity Verification

Three things first: a valid ID in your name, a working camera and your real country of residence. Then five steps to submit and check the result.

Five steps: choose your country and document, photograph the document, look into the camera for a liveness check, confirm your details, and wait for a review. Binance asks you to do this once your account exists.

It's based on Binance's support article How to Complete Identity Verification for a Personal Account (updated 5 June 2026), which we rechecked on 15 September 2026. The verification flow is only visible after signing in, and we haven't put a real identity through it, so screen descriptions come from Binance's own guide. Options differ by country and document.

Which kind of verification is this?

Start with what the page is asking you to do. The table separates contact codes, identity checks and your phone's own unlock screen so you can open the relevant instructions.

This guide covers the second one. People also call it KYC, which stands for Know Your Customer.

What to have ready

A valid ID document in your own name

Binance lists passports, ID cards and driver's licences as accepted documents, and notes that the options vary by country. You only see your options at the document-type step, so don't assume a particular document will be on the list.

Have your own, unexpired original beside you. Check its condition and expiry date before opening the camera, so you can select and photograph the document you intend to submit.

If you could use more than one document

Open the document-type list after entering your real residence and issuing country. Compare the available options with the valid originals you hold, then choose the document you can supply. If several are listed, use the checks below to decide which has clear details and the required pages available. Keep the residence answer accurate throughout this choice.

Before choosing, check the expiry date, whether the text and photograph are readable, and which sides or pages the flow requests. When both sides are required, use the same document for both images. Do not combine photographs from different documents.

Your documents use different versions of your name

Put the intended ID beside the other paperwork and identify the difference. It might be a missing middle name, a different spelling, or an older name on a document that has not yet been updated. Use the selected ID and the form's field instructions to check your identity details. Combining parts from several documents can produce a name that appears on none of them.

If the form asks for Latin characters but your document uses another script, look for the language instructions beside that field. Check whether another valid document you hold, with the required spelling, is an offered option. If you still cannot enter the information accurately, tell official support which field is affected and how the name appears on your document. Keep the document photograph unaltered.

If your legal name has only one part and both name fields are required, explain that exact situation to official support: your ID has a single name, while the form requires a given name and a family name. Read any instructions beside those fields first. Follow the applicable instructions for your document; leave invented surnames and placeholder values out of the form.

When one document uses a former name and another a changed name, explain that difference. Do not assume that an additional name-change certificate will automatically resolve it or upload extra files into a step that does not request them. The name and residence-field guide covers these checks in more detail. If none of your documents is listed, see what to do when your document is unavailable.

Your real country of residence

The first screen asks for your country of residence and the document's issuing country or region. Residence is where you actually live; the issuing country is whoever issued the document. They're often different. If you live abroad on your home country's passport, read country of residence, issuing country and name first.

A working camera and time without interruptions

The liveness check uses your camera. Pick a well-lit spot, take off hats and glasses, and switch off beauty filters.

Keep your ID within reach and set aside enough time to review the confirmation page. Leave the browser or app open while capture and submission are running. If the process is interrupted, return to the account and use the continuation checks below.

Website or app?

Both let you verify the current account, but capture and manual-upload options can differ by country and screen. If you need another device, confirm that you have signed into the same account and continue from its verification page. Avoid submitting from both devices at once.

Only upload to Binance's own flow

Your ID photos and face scan belong inside the verification flow on the official Binance website or app, nowhere else. Ignore anyone offering to "do your KYC" or asking you to send ID photos or selfie videos over a messaging app or shared drive. This site doesn't collect them either; none of our support checklists need your ID.

The document and face check must belong to the account holder. Do not use another person's ID or have someone else complete the face scan.

Where to start

Identity verification happens inside a Binance account you've already created. If you don't have one yet, start with the sign-up guide.

  • Website: sign in and go to Account > Identification, or use the Verify button on the homepage.
  • App: tap Verify Now on the home screen, or open Account Center and tap where it shows Unverified.
  • Just signed up in the app: tapping [Next] after your account is created takes you straight to verification.

You're in the right place when: the page asks for your residence, issuing country or region, and document type.

Binance Help Centre, “How to Complete Identity Verification for a Personal Account?”, English version (desktop browser, captured 2026-09; the side navigation and promotion panels are cropped out). The website entry path Binance gives here matches the list above, and the page carries its own update date of 2026-06-05. The verification screens themselves need a signed-in account; we did not put a real identity through them.

If you land on a screen saying your application is under review, you've already submitted. Don't start another one; skip to reading the result.

The five steps

Step 1: Residence, issuing country and document type

Answer all three truthfully. Residence is the country or region where you live now; the issuing country is whatever your document says; the document type is one you actually have from the list shown.

These choices affect the documents requested next. Review the available types after making them; do not enter an untrue residence to make another option appear.

Done when: you reach the document upload screen.

Step 2: Upload your document

Follow the capture instructions on the current screen. Binance says manual photo upload depends on your country or region; choose a file only if that option is offered. If the website displays a QR code, follow it to continue on your phone. For an ID card, provide both sides when requested; for a passport, provide the pages the flow asks for.

Keep all four edges visible, make the text readable, and avoid glare or fingers covering the document. If asked to retake the photograph, adjust the lighting and distance first. Do not alter the document details to get past an error.

Done when: the photos are accepted and you move to the liveness check.

If the upload won't go through, keeps spinning or the document is flagged, read ID document upload failed or rejected. It separates "won't upload" from "rejected after review", which need different fixes.

Step 3: Liveness check

Allow the camera and follow the on-screen prompts. Binance's requirements: don't wear a hat or glasses, don't use filters, and make sure the lighting is good. In the app, your whole face should be centred and clearly visible.

Your browser or phone will ask whether Binance can use the camera; allow it. If you declined earlier, turn camera access back on in your browser or phone settings.

Done when: the prompts finish and the flow moves on.

A camera that won't open, a prompt you can't get past, and a failure after finishing are three different problems. See face verification failed.

Step 4: Confirm your personal information

You'll be shown your personal information to confirm, and some of it may need entering or correcting. Binance requires the information to match your ID and warns that it cannot be changed once confirmed. Updating already verified details is a separate process; see mistakes and later updates.

Compare each field with the document. If family name and given names have separate fields, follow their labels. Check the date format before entering your birthday, and look for missing or misread characters in the document number. The pre-submission checklist below explains what to inspect.

Done when: the page shows your application as submitted and waiting for review.

Step 5: Wait for review

Don't refresh or leave until the page clearly shows the submission went through. After that, it's a wait.

Binance says submitted documents are usually reviewed within 48 hours, though some cases take longer, and you'll get a notification when the review is done.

Photo capture, submission and reviewAfter document photos and the liveness check, confirm your details and submit. Then check the review status. After the capture prompts finish, check your details and wait for the submission result. Return to Identification in the same account to read the review status and any outstanding request.

Continue after an interruption or device change

After closing the app, losing a connection or changing cameras, sign back into the same account and open Identification. Read the status and the step it asks you to complete. Those two details tell you where to continue: a request to capture an image needs a different response from an application already waiting for review.

You left before seeing a submission result

Open the official app or website, sign in and return to Identification. If it shows an application under review, use the result checks below. If it asks you to continue, read the requested step: it could be document capture, a face check, confirmation or additional material. Check any information already filled in against the original document before moving on.

When the page asks for another upload, read the instruction beside it. Look for a request to retake a particular side, replace a document or continue an unfinished step. Compare this with the last result you saw before the interruption. If the reason is unclear, give official support both details, including whether you had seen a submitted status or had only finished taking the photograph.

While the first device shows capture or submission in progress, wait for its result or error before continuing elsewhere. If it remains frozen, note the last message and return through the official entry point to check the account status. Use that result to decide what to do next. Repeated presses of Submit can make it harder to match a later result with the attempt you are investigating.

The website offers a QR code to continue on your phone

When your verification page offers a QR code, use that code and read the instructions beside it before opening the phone camera. Keep the original page available while connecting. The option depends on the screen and account, so use the other route shown if no QR code is offered. Treat codes sent by strangers or copied from tutorial pictures as unrelated to your application.

Read the page that opens on the phone before taking photographs. If it asks you to sign in, use the account where you began verification. If it says the connection or code has expired, return to that account's original verification page and follow its option to continue or obtain a fresh code. Use the expiry instruction displayed for this connection; the email-code timing elsewhere in the registration guide applies to a different check.

Finish the requested phone steps and look for a submission or review result. Then compare it with Identification in the same account. If the computer still shows an earlier capture screen, check the status before taking the photos again. For a continuing discrepancy, record the message on each device and when you saw it, and ask official support whether any action remains.

You opened the app separately on another device

Compare the account identifier or UID on the two devices when it is displayed. You can also review the linked email address or phone number in your own account settings. If the identifiers differ, return to the original account before continuing verification. If they match but the verification pages still disagree, keep the two status messages for support. Make this comparison privately; Ralmu does not need your account identifiers.

If you registered through Google or Apple, check the provider account you are selecting. Choosing a different provider account can take you to a different sign-in or sign-up path. If the screen now asks you to create an account, stop and review the registration recovery checks; creating another account does not move an existing identity application.

Once you have confirmed the account, open its verification page and continue with the requested step. Check camera permission on the new device if capture cannot start; permission granted on the first device may need to be set separately here. The camera checks below explain where to look before trying the capture again.

You cannot sign back in

Recover access before trying to submit identity material again. Check whether the obstacle is a password, an email or SMS code, or a security method you no longer have. Tell official support that an identity application was started before you lost access, including the approximate submission time and the last status you saw.

Use the visitor support instructions to ask for help while you cannot sign in. Keep the case number and the last verification status you remember. After access is restored, open Identification in that account to check the application result, then respond to any outstanding request for information there.

Six checks before you submit

Check information read automatically from your document as carefully as information you typed. Keep the original beside you while reviewing the confirmation page. These are checking methods; the fields your account actually requests may differ.

Put each part of your name in the field that asks for it

Match each name field to the corresponding part of your document. Surname and Family name ask for your family name; Given name(s) asks for your given names. If the form has one full-name field, follow that field's instructions. Read the labels before copying a line from the ID, especially when the document prints your names in a different order.

Look for missing middle names, compound surnames, spaces or hyphens. Do not substitute a nickname or a different spelling. If a character has been read incorrectly, compare it with the original. If the form rejects a character on your document or the required script is unclear, read the name and identity-field guide. Ask official support when the field still cannot be completed accurately, rather than trying different names to see which gets accepted.

Read the date format before entering your birthday

Check the day, month and year labels, format hint or date picker before comparing the value with your ID. A date shown only as numbers can be ambiguous if you assume your usual ordering. Check the year too: scrolling past the intended year or reversing a month and day should be corrected before confirmation.

When the form has separate fields, check each one individually. Keep your date of birth separate from the document's issue or expiry dates. If the date on the original document itself is disputed, ask the issuing authority; this website cannot decide which birthday you should enter.

Keep the document type, number and expiry together

Compare the selected document type with the images in the current preview. A passport selection needs the pages requested for a passport, not an ID-card image. When the page asks for both sides, confirm that you have not uploaded the same side twice or mixed pictures from different documents.

Read the number from the document selected for this application. Compare characters such as O/0 or I/1 directly with the original, then check that the complete number is present in the form. Review the expiry date separately when that field is shown. Keep the same document beside you for these checks so you can compare its number, dates and uploaded images together.

Check residence and issuing country independently

Where you live and which country or region issued your document are separate questions. They may differ when you live abroad while holding an ID from your home country. Check each answer against your circumstances, rather than changing one just to make the two match. If travel, a recent move or multiple residence documents make the correct answer unclear, ask official support about your situation before submitting.

Inspect the image in the upload preview

Open the upload preview if the page provides one. Check that it shows the intended document, the correct side or page and readable text in the right orientation. Inspect the name, number, expiry date and edges. If you find a problem, use the offered retake or replace option for that image, then inspect the new preview before continuing.

Improve a poor photo by changing the lighting, focusing and taking another photograph. Do not change printed details, edit dates or replace the portrait. A screenshot sent to this site's editors should hide personal information; original material submitted to Binance's verification flow must follow its document requirements. A redacted feedback screenshot is not a substitute for the ID requested during verification.

Wait for a submission result before leaving

After confirming your details, wait for a submitted status, a review status or a specific error. Read the wording beside a tick or progress bar to see which step it describes. To check approval, open the identity-verification result itself. If the connection drops during submission, return to Identification in the same account and follow the status shown there before sending the material again.

Reading the result

Check the status on the Identification page on the website or in Account Center in the app. The wording on your screen may not match this table exactly; match by meaning.

Current statusMeaning and next action

ID verified on another accountOne identity can't verify a second personal account
See ID already used by another account
VerifiedThe identity check shown has passed
Read any separate requirement, such as address evidence

The email and the page show different results

Open the full notification and read which account, verification step and date it concerns. Look for the result in the message body: a receipt for a submitted request calls for waiting or checking status, while an approval notice reports a completed check. Address evidence, an earlier rejection and an identity update can each have their own messages, so compare the one that refers to the application you are viewing.

Open Binance through the official app or a known official address and view the account's verification details. Match the account and step with the notification you have just read. If the results conflict, retain both messages and their times, then ask official support which result applies and whether you need to act. Include the particular difference, such as an approval email alongside a new request for documents.

If an email asks for a replacement photo, compare its date with the time you sent the replacement. An older message may describe the problem you have already addressed; a message sent afterward may ask for a further correction. Read the reason and outstanding tasks in the account before sending the file again. If you cannot tell whether the request is still open, ask support to confirm it using those dates.

You are asked for another document

Read what the additional request is meant to establish. A replacement for an expired ID needs a valid document accepted by the identity flow. A request for proof of address needs the listed evidence of where you live. Check whether Binance is asking for a clearer image of the original material or for a different document, then select the file that answers that request.

Before selecting a file, read the requested document type, acceptable issue date, format and submission deadline together. If the reason is unclear, ask which requirement the previous material failed to meet. If you cannot obtain the requested document, describe that limitation and ask which alternatives apply to your account. Include the document type you can obtain so support can address your actual options.

After sending replacement or additional material, check for an acknowledgement or review status and record when you sent it. Follow any new review estimate attached to that request. If no estimate appears and the wait needs clarification, ask support whether the material was received and what is still outstanding. The pending-verification guide explains how to keep the original submission and later requests in order.

Can I resubmit straight after a rejection?

Check whether your page permits another attempt and what the notice asks you to change. If it does, address that issue before resubmitting. Follow any timer, attempt limit or instruction to contact support. A retry allowance from another country or verification route is not necessarily yours.

Check the correction against the reason given: an expired ID needs a valid accepted replacement; unreadable text needs a clearer photograph; an incorrect field needs the permitted correction. Keep the new preview or confirmation page open and compare it with that reason before submitting. If the requested change is still missing, complete it first or ask support how to make it.

The identity check says Verified

Verified confirms that the identity check shown on that page has passed. Read any remaining request, particularly one for address evidence, and complete it if it applies to your account. Keep separate service requirements with the service that asks for them. If the identity page has a completed result and no outstanding request, you have reached the end of the identity application described here.

If a general banner still says Verify while Identification shows Verified, compare the account and the specific requirement before beginning another application. If the discrepancy remains unexplained, give official support both messages. Do not use Update Identity merely to remove an unfamiliar banner; the update process below has consequences and is intended for applicable changes or requests.

When proof of address comes in

Proof of address, a document showing where you live, is different from your ID. Binance's article How to Verify My Residential Address on Binance describes it as part of identity verification, required to comply with your country or region's regulations, and reached through [Get Verified Plus].

So whether and when you need it depends on what your verification page and notices ask for. If nothing has asked, you don't need to dig out bills in advance.

If requested, the document must show your name, residential address, issue date, issuer and identifying details such as its logo or contact information. The name and address should match the information you submitted. Binance lists formats including PDF, JPG, JPEG and PNG, and does not accept photocopies. How recent the document must be depends on the country or region and document type. Do not treat three or six months as a universal limit: check the requirements that apply to you before choosing a document. Binance's stated 1–2 working days is a review-time reference, not a promise of approval.

Binance lists payslips, medical bills and standalone mobile phone bills in most regions among documents it does not accept. Check the applicable list for the specific document. A national ID card that shows your address can serve as proof of address, but not if it's the same document you used to verify your identity. For rejections, see proof of address rejected.

Mistakes and later updates

Before you confirm

Before confirmation, use the available back, retake or edit control to correct a wrong selection, image or personal detail. Then return to the preview or confirmation page and check the replacement. If you cannot find a way to make the correction, pause before confirming and ask support how to fix that specific item. Keep the field label or error wording so you can explain where editing is blocked.

After you've confirmed

If you find a mistake after confirmation, open the application and read its status before looking for a correction option. For a review already in progress, tell Binance support which detail is wrong, what the correct information is on your document and when you submitted it. Follow the correction route they provide for that account. The country of residence, issuing country and name guide covers common field problems.

After you're verified

If your document expires, your name or ID number changes, or your nationality changes, you can update your verification. Look for [Update Identity] or the update option available to your account on the verification page, then follow its prompts. The entry point can differ by region; ask official support if you cannot find it.

Know this before you click: Binance says that once you declare an update, your account is restricted to Withdrawal Only mode until the new information is verified. Choose a reason that matches your circumstances or an explicit official request. Ask what an unexplained prompt means before resetting verification to try to remove it. Details are in Binance's article How to Update My Verified Identity Information.

Find the step that actually failed

Start with the screen where the problem occurs. A missing upload control, a black camera view and a rejection notice lead to different checks below. Work on the item named in the error, then look for the result before changing something else. Keep track of what you tried so you can explain an unresolved problem clearly.

Your document is not listed, or there is no upload button

Check the residence, issuing country or region, and document type you selected. The options describe what that flow supports. A driving licence or gallery-upload button in somebody else's tutorial does not establish that your account offers it. If you do not hold a valid document from the list, pause and find out whether you can obtain suitable material. Do not select a similar-sounding type and upload a different document.

If the page requires live capture, use that route. If the capture control is missing, blank or displaying an error, use the document-upload troubleshooting guide. Follow any file-format or size instructions shown there. The PDF rules for proof of address are not automatically the rules for an ID-photo capture screen.

The camera is black, or no permission prompt appears

First establish whether you are using a browser or the Binance app. In a browser, check camera access for the site and, where required, permission for the browser itself to use the device camera. Google's Chrome camera-permission guide gives the desktop route through Settings, Privacy and security, Site settings, then Camera. On Android, use Settings, Site settings, then Camera. Adjust the permissions needed for the current verification.

If the preview stays black, check whether another program is using the camera. Try the device's camera app to see whether it can take a picture, then return to the Binance capture screen and check its view again. If the camera app works but Binance still shows black, continue with the site or app checks in face verification failed.

You submitted, then received a rejection or another request

Keep the exact notice and identify the issue it names. For an expired document, check which valid replacement is accepted. For a mismatch, compare the specified field with the original. For an identity already used by another account, follow the account checks. After addressing that issue, inspect the requested change before submitting or retrying the relevant step.

If the message only says failed, inspect the verification details and official notifications for a reason. If none is available, ask official support what needs changing. Repeatedly submitting the same material does not help you identify the cause. Follow any retry timer or attempt limit on your own page.

Prepare a useful support request

  • State whether the failure happened during document selection, capture, confirmation or the review after submission.
  • Give the website/app context, device type, operating system and app version.
  • Keep the original error, time and time zone, and list what you already checked or changed.
  • Mention any device switch or new request for documents. Hide personal information in screenshots.

This describes the problem without sending passwords, codes or a complete identity document in chat. If Binance requests a document resubmission, use the verified official verification or appeal entry point. If you cannot log in, the visitor support route is available. Keep the case number and add later results to that conversation so you do not need to retell the whole sequence.

Questions

Why does identity verification appear after account registration?

Registration only creates the account. Binance requires new users to complete identity verification under Know Your Customer standards, which help guard against fraud and money laundering, and you can't trade until it's done. Being sent to verification after sign-up is the normal flow, not an error.

Does a successful submission mean verification is approved?

No. It means your documents went in. A review follows, usually within 48 hours, and the result can be approval, a request for more information, or a rejection. Go by the notification and the status on your verification page.

Where should I check which ID documents are accepted?

On the document-type step, after you've chosen your residence and issuing country. Binance's guide mentions passports, ID cards and driver's licences, but the list varies by country, so what a friend could choose may not be available to you.
